Our visit to Mabamba Swamp in Entebbe was another brilliant experience\. We were incredibly lucky to see the shoebill almost immediately, and even watched it with a fish in its mouth\. That was truly unforgettable, especially since seeing the shoebill is the main reason most people visit\. However, the experience was about much more than just the shoebill\. We saw so many other bird species, and it is definitely worth visiting even if you are not a serious bird lover\. The swamp is beautiful, with calm waters, water lilies and many colourful little birds all around\. When you eventually reach the swamp itself, the peaceful surroundings make the trip feel even more special\. Our guide was very friendly, informative and clearly proud of what they represent and protect there, which made the experience even more enjoyable\. Overall, Mabamba Swamp was a wonderful and memorable visit\. Seeing the shoebill was incredible, but the beautiful landscape, variety of birds and knowledgeable guide made the whole experience well worth it\.

I was kind of worried when I read a review that these written reviews are false. However, the guide was very friendly. He even helped us find the 'woodland kingfisher' after the boat tour ended. The price was more affordable than other tour companies. Also he didnt ask for the tips. It was such a wonderful experience.

Livingstone was a great guide and the tour delivered the shoebill as well as many other local birds in the marsh. Highly recommend.

A must-see spot for any visit to Entebbe to catch a glimpse of this engimatic bird in its natural habitat. The swamp which is home to these unique birds is located on an Island away from the mainland at Entebbe. There are many tours run with small boats to take tourists across but they are not too safe. The one I was in had motor trouble just a few feet away from the jetty. It's much better to take the ferry across, which is cheaper and a whole lot safer too. Once across, you can take a car or bike taxi ("boda boda") to the tour site. There you'd have to board the small, wooden boats to navigate the swamp. The location is very scenic with tall reeds and papyrus growing all around. This wetland is home to over 200 species of birds, as per the guide, but very few Shoebills. So you're lucky if you catch sight of one. Aside from the central attraction, there are also African Jacanas, Lapwings and many other bird species to be seen. Early morning hours are best suited for a successful visit. Charges can vary a whole lot depending on the season and your haggling skills. My tour cost me around $85 as a solo traveller. The whole activity lasted 4-5 hours, with over two hours at the swamp.

Very professional, friendly and informative guide, who explains things very clearly and we learned a lot about Shoebills and many other birds, such as the Jesus bird! Even though we rescheduled to the afternoon because of rain, the guide was flexible and we still saw a shoebill in the evening with the sunset! We thoroughly enjoyed this experience and would love to do it again, and will bring our friends when they visit us in Kampala. Even the boat ride itself through the swamp is stunning... A must do experience!! Gyebaliko bassebo
